How To Boil An Artichoke
Instructions
Clean and trim your artichoke.
Slice off the bottom stub from the vegetable so that it will stay upright when cooking.
Fill a pot with about 1 inch of water.
Add 1 tsp of salt and bring water to a boil.
Place the artichoke into the boiling pot of water.
Reduce the heat to simmer and place lid on your pot.
Allow the artichoke to simmer for about 30 to 40 minutes. Actual cook time will vary based on the size of your artichoke, with a small artichoke potentially requiring only a 10 minute cook time.
Check your artichoke to see if it is tender. If you are cooking a baby artichoke, check after 10 minutes. If you are boiling a large artichoke, check after 30 minutes. Your artichoke will be ready when the color has changed to a dark chartreuse hue and the texture is soft enough for you to remove an inner leaf.
Turn off the heat and carefully remove the artichoke with spoons or tongs.2
